| description 2: | The Alpe di Siusi is known as Euorpe's largest high-altitude alpine meadow. It is an area of breath taking beauty, even by the high standards of the Dolomites. The area, which slopes upwards gently to the south, has a surface area of nearly 52 square kilometres, and is situated between the Val Gardena, the Sciliar and the Sassopiatto-Sassolungo Group.
The region has a long and rich history, clearly evident from the ruined castles and traditional architecture that typify the region, as well as the rich heritage and folklore.
The main resort town is Kastelruth / Castelrotto with a second base choice of Seis/Siusi and Fie allo Sciliar not much further way. The three of them sit some 700 metres below the base of the lifts at Alpe di Siusi itself. Here there is slopeside access to the substantial, intermediate level, local skiing area. The area can easily be reached by the new circulating cable car which starts at Siusi and transports people to the ski resort in about 15 minutes.
